Brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald opened the doors to the first McDonald’s drive-in burger restaurant in 1940, in San Bernardino, CA. When Ray Kroc took an interest in the chain, opening the first franchised location in 1955, the McDonald’s business strategy was changed forever. Kroc’s ambitious business strategy led to rapid expansion, making McDonald’s the leading fast food retailer that it is today.
McDonald’s Corporation currently operates more than 35,000 locations in 119 countries. With reported revenue of $28 billion in 2013, McDonald’s is the largest single chain of fast food restaurants in the world.
