 Starbucks Turns 40!

Step aside Jen Aniston, there’s another celebrity that’s making 40 look sexier than you do. We all know it, we all love it, we’re talking about Starbucks. Yes, Starbucks is joining the middle age club.

Once upon a time, a little coffee shop opened in Seattle, WA in March 1971. Now in 2011, Starbucks has grown to around 16,000 stores in 50 countries. It’s unavoidable actually, find me one person who does not know what Starbucks is, now that’s the power of influence at work if I’ve ever seen it.

Over the last 40 years, Starbucks has made four minor alterations to its logo. They say the purpose of the latest change is to keep the company relevant while embracing its history. In the course of Starbucks’ history, the company has previously made alterations to its logo in 1987 and 1992.

Now in 2011 Starbucks has completely eliminated its brand name from its coffee cup and left the iconic mermaid to stand alone and represent the coffee company. Some might find it arrogant, others may find it brilliant.

Nevertheless, Starbucks says the new "siren" logo is part of a renewed design approach in everything from the look and feel of the store to the cup in each person's hand.

In late 2010, Starbucks also introduced the Trenta, 31 ounces of chilled coffee goodness that’s bound to keep you awake for days hours at a time.

Now the Seattle-based coffee giant Starbucks is celebrating its 40th birthday this month.

As part of that celebration, Starbucks is rolling out its new logo in a store in Times Square, offering a limited-time-never-again "Tribute Blend" (in stores today), and a new line of sugary treats called "Petites." Fans of the mini donuts and petite vanilla bean scones will recognize the Starbucks concept right away. They'll be free with the purchase of a drink in the afternoons this Thursday, Friday and Saturday only. Get them while they’re hot!
