Hunger Games & Game of Thrones Cookbooks on Sale Today

Amazon puts unofficial cookbooks for two major franchises on sale under its time-sensitive Lightning Deals
Almost looks like an eclipse, but that’s ANOTHER series

As pop culture fans who saw Hunger Games on opening day at midnight and can’t resist a chance to throw Game of Thrones into everyday conversation, we can’t help but pass along this tidbit of information we received in our mailbox yesterday: Amazon is using Lightning Deals, its everyday flash sale concept, to sell Unofficial Cookbooks for two of our favorite things.

One is Alan Kistler’s The Unofficial Game of Thrones Cookbook: From Direwolf Ale to Auroch Stew - More Than 150 Recipes from Westeros and Beyond. That’s a pretty intense name. But judging by the recipes that Flavorwire posted back in April – and that we linked to in our weekend link roundup, also in April! – the cookbook has earned all those words. Check out those lemon cakes. Yes please.

The second book is Emily Ansara Baines’ The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook: From Lamb Stew to "Groosling" - More than 150 Recipes Inspired by The Hunger Games Trilogy. As it turns out, we’ve also pointed to this cookbook in a weekend link roundup – small world! Probably because it looks delicious and we haven’t stopped dreaming of lamb stew since we finished the trilogy. (The fact that it was never mentioned in the movie was our number one complaint.)

The PR letter we got suggests the Game of Thrones cookbook for guys (and dads) who enjoy cooking, and the Hunger Games cookbook for kitchen-ready girls, but hey: let’s not guess series preferences based on gender, shall we? Home Economics-averse Arya and cake decorating wizard Peeta Mellark both disapprove. Besides, let’s face it – if you’re looking at either of these cookbooks, you’re not thinking of gifts. You're looking at them for yourself. Considering that we’ve obviously been thinking about them for a while ourselves, we can’t say we blame you. According to Amazon's Lightning Deals page, the Game of Thrones Cookbook deal starts at 6PM PDT, while the Hunger Games Cookbook deal starts at 8PM PDT. So if you want it, get on it.

And now, apropos of nothing, here’s Arya Stark taking the cinnamon challenge. Happy Saturday!
