White House Releases Secret Beer Recipe

Citizen homebrewers, rejoice: the White House Honey Ale homebrew now belongs to all of us
White House Releases Secret Beer Recipe

Last week, a petition started gaining some real buzz: with 25,000 signatures, would the White House make President Barack Obama’s secret White House Honey Ale homebrew beer recipe available to the public? Now here’s a happy ending that proves the power of the people (and of Reddit). With still over 12,000 signatures to go, the White House has proactively released the recipe to everyone interested.

“With public excitement about White House beer fermenting such a buzz, we decided we better hop right to it,” writes Sam Kass, White House Assistant Chef and the Senior Policy Advisor for Healthy Food Initiatives, in an e-mail to everyone who signed the petition (and on the petition site itself, natch). He goes on to describe the President’s foray into homebrewing that started last year and ended with a tasty batch made from honey produced in the White House’s own South Lawn beehive.

Not only do you get the full detailed recipe for the White House Honey Ale, which includes two types of hops and that famous White House honey (though we’re sure you can substitute your favorite local farmer’s market honey if you can’t get your hands on the White House beehive) – you also get a recipe for an even tighter-kept secret, White House Honey Porter. As dark beer fans, we are just a little bit freaking out from excitement.

There’s also a cool video that takes viewers into the White House kitchen to explain the process.

Check out the recipes on the White House petition site here, and happy patriotic brewing!
