Fans of sparkling wine, take note: Bacardi USA Inc has issued a voluntary recall on 1.5 liter bottles of Bacardi Martini Asti sparkling wine. The recall is apparently related to instances of bottles bursting unexpectedly within cases and on retail shelves, causing concern over potential harm to customers.

Bacardi USA issued the following statement in the form of a press release: “We have recently received reports that some MARTINI Asti Sparkling Wine 1.5 liter products have burst while located either in their case or on retail shelves. While any potential risk to the public appears limited, out of an abundance of caution given these reports and while we investigate this matter, Bacardi USA has chosen to voluntarily recall a limited amount of MARTINI Asti Sparkling Wine 1.5 liter bottles in your state. To date, there have been no reports of consumer injuries."

So far there have been no reports of injuries due to the bursting sparkling wine bottles, but Bacardi USA isn’t waiting until it happens to take action, instead instructing consumers to use gloves and protective eyewear to carefully check any recently purchased bottles of Bacardi Martini Asti sparkling wine for the following lot codes, which are ink jet printed on the back of the bottle:
