How crestfallen were we when we found out that the image of a Ron Swanson’s All of the Bacon and Eggs You Have Ben & Jerry’s ice cream pint making the rounds on the internet was just a hoax dreamed up by graphic artist John Defreest? Tragic! When Dexter Morgan’s Miami Slice popped up in our newsfeeds last week, we knew better than to put much stock in it becoming a reality – the same went for recent rumors of a Schweddy Balls ice cream, inspired by the NPR-skewering Saturday Night Live skit starring Alec Baldwin as Pete Schweddy, a bakery owner being interviewed by Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer as hosts of radio show “The Delicious Dish.” But here’s the difference: this one is legit. Ben & Jerry’s confirmed today that pints of Schweddy Balls ice cream are in production and will be making it to grocery freezers in the very near future. Good times!

Today Ben & Jerry’s tweeted: “Some people think our Schweddy Balls flavor is a fake / joke. Trust me. It's real, delicious & coming to a store near you.” Accompanying the statement was a photo of the ice cream pint packaging, and now it’s all up on their official site. In the skit, Baldwin describes a variety of holiday-themed “balls for every taste” – popcorn, cheese, and rum for starters. Ben & Jerry’s take is slightly different, but the spirit’s there. “Available in both pints and Scoop Shops, this flavor is Fair Trade vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum and is loaded with fudge covered rum and milk chocolate malt balls,” reads the website.

Of course, the stars of the skit had to be reached for comment. “For a long time, I thought that ‘Here Lies Pete Schweddy' would end up on my tombstone,” said Alec Baldwin in an official press release. “Now, thanks to Ben & Jerry's, the goodness of the Schweddy family recipe won't go with me to the great beyond. It is immortalized here, right now, and it's an ice cream. Ben & Jerry's and Schweddy. Two great names in American dessert, together at last.”

Ana Gasteyer added: "As a person and a performer, I am a sucker for holiday balls. And I have no doubt this ice cream will cause many to scream 'Good Times.'"

Not familiar with the skit? That's all right, it's been a while. Check it out below:
