Whether you’re a fan of Parks and Recreation or Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, or just an avid appreciator of pop culture in general, you’re no doubt familiar with Ron Swanson’s interpretation of a turkey burger. For the uninitiated, it’s simply a fried turkey leg inside a grilled hamburger. Though it wasn’t the burger that eventually bested Chris Traeger’s gourmet turkey burger, it certainly made an impression.

Not long after the related Parks and Recreation episode aired, daring individuals at sources like Eater started trying their hand at the Ron Swanson turkey burger and recording the results. The ante was upped when Nick Offerman appeared as a guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and was presented with (and sampled) the gargantuan turkey burger meatfest.
Today, you can follow along in your kitchen as Nick Offerman cooks a Ron Swanson turkey burger from scratch. All you need is a turkey leg, a pot full of boiling oil for frying, butter, a round loaf of bread, and about five pounds of ground beef. Ketchup? Optional. Hacksaw? Absolutely necessary.
