When it comes to getting people interested in a new cause or organization, one of the best ways to do it is with a lot of delicious food all in one place. On Friday, June 22, The Positive Plate – a non-profit program promoting sustainability in the restaurant industry – launches its San Diego chapter with food event A Taste of Summer at Point Loma’s Liberty Station, and it’s clearly taking full advantage of the city’s rich culinary scene to make sure that it’s a taste to remember. Just recently the event released its menu for the night, and it’s pretty exciting.

The menu represents a good cross-section of San Diego, featuring restaurants from La Jolla to Little Italy. One thing many of them have in common is a dedication to sustainable practices, whether it’s being a Green Certified Restaurant or building menus around local seasonal ingredients. Another thing they all have in common is looking delicious. Check it out:

 

Alchemy

  • Pickled Suzie’s Farm Strawberry Gazpacho
  • Pork & Grass-Fed Beef Meatball

Café Chloe

  • Pissalidiere: A classic French pizza with caramelized onion and anchovy
  • Lamb shank with summer squash and tomato compote

Carnitas Snack Shack

  • Bacon Dusted Popcorn
  • Sweet Chili and Spicy Pork Belly

Casa de Luz

  • Coconut Ceviche on a flaxseed-brown rice triangle with cilantro avocado drizzle
  • Cabbage-rito stuffed with brown rice cashew cream summer squash and zucchini on a bed of cilantro-black bean puree topped with lime infused carrot radish slaw and a micro sprout confetti

Cups

  • Variety of delicious organic cupcakes made with local, seasonal ingredients

Gabardine

  • Popcorn Shrimp
  • Tremocos and Fried Chick Pea Salad with Octopus Asada and Chimichurri

  • Seared Albacore Tuna with Castelvetrano Olives
  • Scallop Ceviche with Persian Cucumbers and Heirloom Tomatoes

  • Local Short Rib on Crostini with Mango Salsa
